JPAA attended 2019 China Trademark Festival.

8 delegates including the President of JPAA, Mr. Shimizu, visited “2019 China Trademark Festival” which was held from July 5 to 9 in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China. One of our delegates delivered a presentation regarding “the protection system of geographical indications in Japan” at the Parallel Meeting “Forum on Finding the Beauty of Geographical Indication Trademarks” in the morning of July 7.

JPAA and CTA held “the 20th JPAA-CTA Trademark Exchange Meeting” in the afternoon of July 7 and the delegates of both organization delivered presentations below. * JPAA side * 1. “Solutions to trademark registration in bad faith in Japan” 2. “Summary and utilization of the defensive mark system” 3. “Definition of “use” in the cancellation procedure regarding trademarks which have not been used for three years” * CTA side * 1. “Contents of the fourth amendment to the Trademark Law and influences thereof on practice” 2. “Points to note when selecting designated goods/services in trademark application from abroad” 3. “Identification of “use” in the revocation procedure regarding trademarks which have not been used for an uninterrupted period of three years” “The 20th JPAA-CTA Trademark Exchange Meeting” was a great opportunity to share the latest information of IP practice in Japan and China.

After the Exchange Meeting, Mr. Shimizu held a brief meeting with the President of CTA, Mr. Ma Fu. JPAA and CTA agreed to reinforce our long-term relationship in future as well.
